"I have a 1990 OMC Cobra 5.7 G

"I have a 1990 OMC Cobra 5.7 GM with 4 bbl carb. The engine starts and runs great. After several hours of cruising, the engine will not run at idle. Every attempt at shifing causes a stall. The engine will only restart when pulled out of gear and the throttle opened 1/3 to 1/2. Choke plate is open. Thanks for your help."

If it only stalls when attempting a shift it could be an ESA problem. If it idles well in neural then stalls at shift time it's almost a definite ESA issue. If it's idling poorly in neutral then I'd look at carb./tuning; hopefully nothing worse.
