" I am thinking of buying boat with a 3.0L Mercruiser i/o with 2 yrs on it, but there is positive pressure coming out of the oil filler when it is uncapped at idle, and also small amount of oil residue appears around the valve cover vent hosehole. Is this normal in a marine engine? "

Generally, the oil pressure gauge should read @ 40lbs above idle. It may drop to 20lbs at idle depending on the condition and age of the oil and motor.

Removing the cap on a 3.0L will allow the oil to spray out and a little oil around the vent hole is normal.
