Blue band 80 drive problem

"Hi, I'm new to boats, and have inherited a dory with a Belgium built mercury 80 blue band motor. It would'nt start (surprise!) but after rewiring and cleaning plugs, fuel etc, she starts every time, however, with the water muffs on and running, if I shift the throttle forwards, the engine revs, but the prop does'nt turn. The same is true in reverse. Can anyone give me some advice? I want to get the motor running, as the tilt and trim is totally knackered and has sheared through, and don't want to buy new transom bracket if the motor is not worth repairing, many thanks,"

Check for busted shift cable one of the end s may be busted good place to start also is there lube in lower unit?

"thanks, I checked the cables and the cable for the drive was uncoupled inside the throttle mechanism end, works a treat now!
Now all I have to do is source a bracket,
