70 yamaha overheats at idle

"recently had lower unit resea

"recently had lower unit resealed, and water pump replaced. now alarm is going off at idle, add a little power and alarm goes out. runs fine at higher speeds. called my mechanic he suggested removing thermostat and try again, pulled cover off and found that there was no thermostat. any suggestions?"

"Take it to a different mechanic - any mechanic that recommends removing the thermostat to remedy a heat alarm should have his screwdrivers re-possessed.... sounds like he missed something (seal moved, key slipped etc) and spend 20 bucks on a new thermostat."
