"so is it the same block? I'm looking to rebuild mine, and I know it's a Chevy 350 block. Is it safe to assume I can just use the called for marine parts on it? I'm rebuilding mine due to the fact that it has an assumed bad front seal (slinging oil from the front lower,lost 4 qts in an hr today) and severe blow by (smoke shoots out from the valve cover). I'll be using a marine cam kit,brass plugs,marine water pump, etc. Have a closed cooling system, so saltwater's not an issue. "

"Mike;
Why wouldn't you just buy a rebuilt 350 marine shortblock?
They are cheap enough and then you know its put together with marine internals and ready to go.
They are available at Marine Motors, Jasper, ebay, etc.

"Since most of the cost of a rebuilt is labor, I'd prefer to do it myself. Plus, I know it'll be done right, to my specs, not by a 9 to 5'er that just pounds out engines all day, not worring if he really did torque down those main caps in sequence. Not saying the rebuilders don't do an excellent job, I just don't want to take the chance, been there done that. Warrantees are great-till you have to pull it out again!"
