"1998 Johnson 70 HP trim / tilt

The previous owner or mechanic destroyed the slotted end of the manual release valve for the trim / tilt. Any ideas how to remove and replace it ?

"Drill into it and use an "easy out" extractor would be my first choice. Or tap it with a L/H thread and screw a bolt in, this will undo the plug as you tighten the bolt."

Thank you for the advice..I'll be doing that job over the weekend.

I also noticed thath the top portion of the T/T pump motor housing is badly rusted.....
Can that top portion be replaced without removing the outboard from the transom ?

"The trim motor field housing is plain 'black steel' and super-corroding! Does not exist as separate part. Sand it down and epoxy prime it before painting. Don't try to remove it separately, You have to remove the motor as complete unit, with engine off transom."
