"I have a 1980 43 Viking Double Cabin with twin 671N's and my brother-in-law who is in trucking told me I must run these engines at 3/4 or more of WOT.

Is this true, or can I run them for long periods of time at maybe 1200 or 1400?

I'm new to Diesels and confused.

Thanks

Bob"

This may be a misunderstanding

This may be a misunderstanding.

Most egines (gas and diesel) are rated to produce a max HP at WOT but are not designed to run continuously with that output.

Therefore you can push to WOT to get on the plane but are best advised to pull back to 75% for planning.

Running at 40-50% is OK but you will need to find the most economical speed to cruise at for your hull and prop.
