"Put a new coil and wires, plugs on my 1973 318 a few weeks ago, but didnt change the ballast resistor, so today I replaced it....It started to smoke, very lightly a few minutes after the engine was started and running.....I triple check the wiring, it is wired same as old one...This is the first new resistor that was placed on the engine, so I am not sure if they all smoke when first installed or not.....If not, why is it smoking?????? I'm afraid to do anything else without your expert advice...

Thanks, Daron"

You probably have some oil on

You probably have some oil on it. Keep an eye on it and all may be well. No way it could smoke from only 12 volts.
