"Hello all new guy here,

I recently (foolishly quite possibly) decided to remove the lower unit or foot on my 1998 9.9 4-stroke Mariner for the purpose of locating the source of what I then thought was an oil leak. Upon removing the last bolt and lowering the unit down and out the copper water tube fell to the floor. My current dilemma, is how can I be sure the tube is properly seated at the top, or at the engine? There is no room to see as the foot engages the housing closing the window, prior to the tube engaging its home at the power head.

I’ll since been told that the “oil leak” is a common issue on these motors when they are used as kickers, and there was really no leak in the first place.

Is there some technique that is used to insure proper insertion, and the a test to confirm proper alignment?

I tried to search the site for this problem, but was unsuccessful.

Thanks in advance,
Bill"
