"I purchased a 2006 50hp Merc 4stroke a few months back. (I'm building a boat). The motor has been stored UPSIDE DOWN in my basement in the original metal 'crate'. I just 'righted' it and oil came leaking out of the foot and some out from the cowl seal. I just assumed the motor would not have come from the factory with oil in the crankcase/gear case. (yes, that was pretty dumb assumption).
What measures should I take to make sure the engine is 'ready to go' once the time comes to install and crank her?"
