"In order to calibrate the tachometers, I need to determine the pulses per engine revolution. I'll need to know the number of poles on the alternator rotor, hopefuly, without removing the pulley and counting them. Anyone know the pulses per revolution or the drive ratio or alternator pole count? It should fall between 3 to 27, but I'm not sure and can't find it marked anyplace."

"The engines are TAMD 41As and using a 12 Volt system. I've called three different Volvo Penta Dealers and talked to the service managers... none knew the alternator's number of poles or the number of impulse. One went as far to tell me, Volvo doesn't even provide them with alternator schmatics, even their manuals are weak concerning electrical details. I bought a shop manual and the color codes are incorrect, but easy enough to figure out. Just not enough detail. No break down of key switch, transistor or resistor values and definately nothing on the alternators. Any help would be greately appriciated."
