HI..Is there an idle adjustme

HI..Is there an idle adjustment on a 1975 Mercury 40hp? It seems to be idling a bit slow. It will stall when in neutral. Thanks! Paulette

" Paulette, Yes there is an id

" Paulette, Yes there is an idle adjustment on your Merc. If you remove the engine cowling, and look at the motor from the front, it is located to the right of the carburator. There are two or three screws facing forward with locking nuts on them. Locate the one marked IDLE. They have phillips heads on them. To make the adjustment, warm up the engine in the water. DO NOT use "earmuff" type water hookups to make the adjustment out of the water. Loosen the locknut behind the idle screw. Then turn the idle screw in (clockwise) slowly until you have the desired result. Tighten the locknut.
My concern is... There may be an engine problem causing the slow idle speed. I hope everything is O.K. Good luck and let me know if that does the trick. Jeff. "
