I have owners manual & parts manual
I've pulled the 4 bolts on upper housing, It only opens up an 1". Looks like the drive shaft #7
is holding it back. Can't locate the pin#18, to remove. Any help would be nice. thankyou"
 
You have to remove the engine

You have to remove the engine block to disconnect the shift rod.Don't be discouraged as it is not that hard to do.

Remove the carburetor adjustin

Remove the carburetor adjusting needles. Remove the 7 ( I think ) screws below the cowling. Disconnect the fuel line. And remove powerhead. It is a lot simpler than you might think.
 
You should also get a new powe

You should also get a new powerhead gasket for when you reassemble it. For your motor it is OMC part # 313065 or Sierra 18-2901. I would also get a new drive shaft seal (cork material). Part #303355 or Sierra 18-2892. Both parts are cheap but important to the operation of the motor.
