D3 190 is it going to be as dependable as the old 130s

"I'm thinking about getting a new boat (24 foot force) and powering it with a D3 190. I'm concerned about the D-3's "engine life". I currently have a Volvo diesel that is 18 years old, over 10,000 hour, 4 cylinders, 130 and have never had to rebuild it. Do you feel that I can expect the same reliability from the new D-3 given the aluminum head and block? How long has the D-3 been around and has it proven to be reliable? Are their any concerns or problems that are associated with the D-3. Can I run off road high sulfur diesel in it?

THERE APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM

THERE APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH D3 AIRFILTERS WHICH ARE COLLAPSING. THIS ALSO CAUSES THE ENGINE TO GO INTO SAFETY MODE AND YOU GET A RED WARNING ADVISE DEALER SERVICE REQUIRED.

"I have a pair of problematic D3 160's. They have approx 1000hrs on them and the Volvo agents have already started talking about rebuilding them for me. Lot's of problems, and if you haven't already done so, I would suggest that you 'don't go there'!"
