Joe, you answered a query I had regarding the location of the Model number of my 1984 140 EJ, and indicated it could be found on the L/H side of the engine mounting bracket, or on the top of the motor, or on a stainless plug like like plate on the motor. I have found what looks like a model number, but it in no way resembles the alpha numeric of other models seen posted on this site. My modle reads 1408430 ????on both the engine mounting bracket on the transom, and stamped on the plug on the engine does this look correct ???"
