"You should check the nameplat

"You should check the nameplate and/or have someone look at the engine first, but a Chrysler 225 1971 should be a model LM318, gas engine. Regular or mid-grade gas, not diesel.

There were Chrysler diesel engines too, but not a model 225 that I am aware of.

A gas engine will have a carburetor and spark plugs. Diesel engine will have injectors."

"Dan,
Are you talking horse

"Dan,
Are you talking horse power or cubic inches?

A 225 cubic inch would be a Chrysler "slant six" engine. That is an inline 6 cylinder engine slanted to reduce the height of the engine as I understand. In '71 the valve seats were not hardened and they needed leaded gas. I have heard of the slant sixes in marine applications.

The LM318 (318 cubic inch) is is a Chrysler marine "V-8" gasoline engine. Again, a '71 would not have hardened valve seats.

Hope this helps"
