"I have a pull start 50hp Merc

"I have a pull start 50hp Mercury serial no 2013425 on a 14 ft runabout which has been diagnosed with a possible failed coil or distributor because of no spark. I am going to have the motor pulled to bits in the hope that a definitive reason can be found. In case of the worst senario can anyone tell me where these parts for this motor can be purchased as no one in NZ holds stocks for this era of outboard? My email is [email protected]"
 
It is easy to remove the distr

It is easy to remove the distributor( it splits) and remove the distributor cap. The procedure then is to test / trouble shoot components. The concept of installing new parts without testing can be expensive.It may be as simple as cleaning the points.

Wonderful news ssparky-many many thanks. Have been busily searching the internet and found a great website called oldmercs.com. Apparently there is a company called Grubbs Marine who specialise in brand new Kiekhaefer Mercury spare parts. If these guys can't help me then I'll definitely be in touch with you. This is a fascinating website. Again many thanks.
