It looks like the intercoolers have leaked resulting in head and jacket damage. What if my mechanic leaves out the intercooler[as he's replacing everything else]?

Next Question: What would cause pitting of the cylinder wall behind the jackets? I'm having them honed but don't ever want to have to do it again. Thanks for all help. This is a painful process and the questions may keep coming. The excessive wear at 1300hrs is a bit of a mystery to my mechanic.
