I am trying to disassemble the subject item so I can replace the short block in my boat. The lower drive is removed already. Does anyone know the steps to remove the intermediate housing so I can get the bellhousing off. I have all the bolts for the bellhousing loose and it does not want to come out. The shaft coming from the housing is still assembled. I am thinking perhaps it needs to be removed. If so, I can't figure out how. Hope this makes sense to somebody. Thanks very much."
 
The engine should come out onc

The engine should come out once you have all of the bell housing bolts removed although they have been known to get stuck at the shaft to coupler joint. Did you remove the lower dust cover?

If you're going to be undertaknig a job of this magnitude it would be in your best interest to purchase a service manual. There is much more information you will need to know to reassemble it which will be in the manual as well.
