"As a new boat owner, I'm concerned about winterizing my 1989 Model 140 HP Johnson outboard.
My questions are:
(1) Should/must I winterize this motor?
(2) If so, how?

Water drains from outboards without the need of a wrench.Run all fuel out of the motor while spraying fogging oil into carburetor throats (your neighbors house may disappear from view).Make sure there is no water in the lower unit.Turn motor by hand to make sure no water is trapped in the waterpump.

The electric primer may well be equipped to inject the fogging oil and a can of fogging oil from the dealer will screw on.

"You should also add fuel stabilizer prior to your final running and let the mix run through the system.

I believe the stabilizer both keeps the gas "fresh", and prevents varnish deposits in the fuel system.

I don't drain my 120 Litre tank - so I add the stabilizer and top the tank up to prevent condensation."
