"My 1987 25 hp Mariner has always idled rough, and it is like the longer you run it, the rougher it gets. The motor went about 5 years without running before I bought it. Last week I idled down and it quit running. Could not get it to start again until I got home, then it ran as normal. I installed a carburetor kit, but it just want run at idle. The throttle has to be almost fully open to get it started, and then it is rough. At full throttle it is better, but you can still hear a cough in the exhaust and puffs of smoke with these coughs. Fairly new power pack, and plugs. Any ideas?"
