"Darrin, can give you a little history. If yours was built by Scott-Atwater it would be somewhere between 1946 and 1959....

After World War II the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company contracted with the newly formed Scott-Atwater Company. The Firestone brand of outboard appeared in 1946 and were manufactured by the " Scott-Atwater" Company through 1959. McCulloch purchased "Scott-Atwater" in 1956 and continued the contract with Firestone until 1959.

The Firestone contract was given to West Bend in 1960 and they produced the outboard through 1962. This was the last year that Firestone offered a full engine line.

From 1963 through 1965 Firestone only offered a 5 horsepower made by Clinton. This outboard was called a Firestone Featherweight."

"Darrin, the number is most li

"Darrin, the number is most likely stamped into the mount rather than being a plate. Number will be 470 or 471 for a 3.6 HP 1947 : 473 for a 7.5 HP 1947 : 480 or 481 for a 3.6 HP 1948 and 483 for a 7.5 HP 1948. The 480 series could also have been sold in 1949 as non-shift models. The site for Antique Outboard Motor Collectors International maybe able to provide more info. Try www.aomci.org and post in Ask A Member.
