"Today I went to replace the water pump on my 2000 Merc 250 EFI outboard. I noticed that who ever had done this before, had sealed the area above the exhaust rubber block with 3M 4200 because the metal wall had deteriorated some. I noticed that this blocked the small round hole in the front of the metal water pump base plate. Is this hole critical? I did not have any issues, I'm doing the water pump only because I have put about 100 hrs on the motor. What is this tiny hole suppose to do?"
