"Newly-acquired, ~30-year-old boat. I've got a water separator and (come to find out), syrupy black-ish water-ish junk in the tank. Added a squeeze bulb to help purge/bleed air out of the lines after my first filter change.
Lo & behold, the bulb-pump action is WAY more vigorous than that of the Yanmar's fuel pump. It seems to have picked up a bunch of junk from the tank, as well as (probably) agitated whatever had settled in the lines. All was finely mixed and much forced through the filter/separator without separating.
So, it's drain the goop (at least, if not the entire tank), clean up what I can, and absorb the rest with (hopefully) Diesel 9-1-1. (A test in a jar of the junky diesel indicates good absorption of the formerly separated water."
