I am selling a 2004 mercury 3.

I am selling a 2004 mercury 3.3 hp outboard and I have been asked if it is a short or long shaft.I was not aware that this motor had two size shafts. Where to I take the measurements.

Hi trying to work out if i nee

Hi trying to work out if i need to modify the boat for the motor.
The height of the transom in my boat is 16 inches.
The shaft length of my motor is 24 inches.
Should i modify the boat so the cavitation plate is level with my keel?

"Steve, if you are mouting an "extra long shaft" motor on a short shaft sized boat, you should definately modify it.

Having an extra 5 inches hanging below the keel is one thing, if you have closer to 10, that could cause you some significant problems - both in handling and potential damage to the lower unit from hitting bottom..."
