    " WILL A WEAK LIFTER CAUSE A CYLINDER TO BACKFIRE AT LOW RPMS? IF NOT WHERE WOULD A GOOD PLACE TO START LOOKING FOR THE PROBLEM? UP TO THIS POINT,
    DIST. CAP-NEW, PLUGS-NEW,NEW WIRES,TIMING ON TARGET, COMPRESSION TEST OK. NEW POINTS. THIS THING HAS REALLY GOT ME BUGGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY RECEIVED..

    " I don't think a lifter would cause your problem. This would be more apparent at high speeds. I would check accelerator pump in the carb, advance weights in the distributor and timing again. Try a little more advance and see if it helps, be careful not to over advance, this could burn a piston.
