" Checking the sensor resistance at the gauge shows
no change in resistance when moving engine up and
down, can anybody tell me where the sensor is located. The up and down relays are located on top of the engine rear.

" The sending unit is located on the inside of the port mounting bracket. Tilt the motor full up to see the sender. There should be a lever attatched to the sender, which the motor contacts to activate the gauge. In the full up position the resistence should be about one ohm. In the full down position, it should be about 88 ohms. This is measured with the wires disconnected from the gauge, either at the gauge or back at the motor. "
 
Pivot the engine about half w

Pivot the engine about half way up. At the left side of the engine in the pivot tube area you should see a small wire harness. This harness leads to a small assembly with a movable plastic paddle about 1/2 inch wide and maybe 2 inches long that moves as you trim the engine. The sensor is operated by that paddle.
