Sovereign Gale 60HP

Has anybody heard of this out

Has anybody heard of this outboard 4 cylinder motor? I require any type of service manual info.

"Gale was a very popular engine and in reality was a test bed for OMC outboards. A Gale 60hp, say manufactured in 1965, if it proved to be a reliable design, would have that design incorporated into the following years Evinrude and Johnson outboard line.

So if you put a 1965 60hp Gale side by side with a 1966 60hp Evinrude or Johnson, the only difference you would see would be the design of the hood and the color scheme.

Thanks Joe wrt 60HP Gale. What would you recommend wrt to servicing an outboard motor that hasn't run for 10 years?

"Check the compression and ignition. Compression should be around 100lb on all cylinders. Spark (with s/plugs out) should jump 1/4" on all cyls. Change the gear lube.... use "Hi Vis" lube, available even at K-Mart. Fill from the bottom drain plug up to the top drain plug. DO NOT loosen or attempt to remove the philips screw you will see at the skeg as it is a pivot point for the shift linkage. The carburetor will no doubt require rebuilding, but I'd suggest you try to run it first. You just might get lucky. Use a fuel mixture of 50/1..... 1pt of 50/1 oil to 6 gal fuel.
