I have a 2000 90hp johnson on

I have a 2000 90hp johnson on a 17' aluminum Lowe bass boat. When I am at or near top speed and I decelerate quickly I hear a chattering noise. Does not happen when I decelerate very slowly. What could this be?????????

It is the natural action of the clutch dog and the forward gear.You may be making a mistake by slowing down the way you are.If you keep doing that you may need to spend money someday.
