" I have an old evinrude 5.5 fisherman. Its Mod # is 5512. Could someone tell me what year this is.

Also, it came with J6J spark plugs. Champion now says to use J8C, aren't these two plugs a different heat range? What should I use? As near as I can tell the J6J's are no longer produced. Thanks in advance for any help. "
 
A J8 plug is too hot for that

A J8 plug is too hot for that motor. Don't do it or you'll be trying to find some pistons for it.

"Belome.... Your engine is a 1956 model. As Alabama states above, DO NOT use a Champion J8J s/plug as the heat range is too high and it will result in piston damage. Use the Champion J6C s/plug which is readily available.
