    " Hi there,

I am trying to change the water impeller on the above, have removed the four bolts and the nut from the guide pin on the lower unit and it moved about 3/4" but when I try to split the lower unit away, the gear lever movers to reverse and it will not budge! Have removed all that I can see, but the lower unit is still held on by the gear linkage. How and where do I disconnect the linkage.

    many thanks

on the side of the exhaust housing there is a small cover about 1/2 inch wide by probably 1 1/2 to 2 inches high. It is held in place by 2 screws. Remove that cover to expose the shift linkage. There are actually two sections to your shift linkage and at the point exposed by removing that cover there is a coupler that connects the two peices. By removing the lower bolt from that coupler you will release the shift linkage enableing you to remove the lower unit.
