I wish to replace the bellows

I wish to replace the bellows on my Volvo Penta 290 outdrive. How easy/hard is this task? Do I need to go to my costly main dealer to carry out this work?

" That depends on how good a mechanic you are. Volvo bellows are stiff, and don't go on easily. Getting the bellows on and the spline shaft in at the same time requires some advance rigging, a reasonable knack, and lots of patience.
My guess is that if you've changed a CV joint or clutch in a car, you can do this all right.
Rig up a system for hoisting/hanging the i/o unit in place. I've seen it done by picking up the unit and just stuffing it in there, but that was by an exceedingly strong guy who had done the job many times.
