have to disconnect the black-yellow wire from the rev-limiter to run engine. will this cause a problem to run engine this way? Any suggestions?

the rev limiter would simply "partially ground" the ignition if you exceeded a (safe) rpm for the motor - ie, prop breaks the water and runs away on you, or something along that line.

Completely removing it will do nothing more than disable that "fail safe"."

Thanks Graham. I felt this was the case but did not want to take the chance that it would disable some other shutdown.

"Clint, here's the exact wording from the service manual...

The rev limiter is activated through the PURPLE wire when the key switch is rotated to the “on” position.

The rev limiter uses a trigger signal (BROWN WIRE)to determine engine speed or rpm. If the engine speed exceeds the specified rpm, the rev limiter will ground out the CDM capacitor charge.

The capacitor voltage flows through the BLACK/YELLOW wires into the rev limiter and to engine ground through the BLACK wire.

(It hooks back into nothing else - simply receives "feeds" which go to ground if necessary.) If you never plan on replacing it, you could remove the wires right back to the switch box so they aren't sitting around under the hood..."
