"John, if you are even slightly "mechanical", a carb job on these is quite simple.

You definately should however, have at least a repair manual. You could simply pull the low speed jet and see what kind of shape it's in, but the issue (if the carb) is best dealt with through removal/disassembly/cleaning.

A carb cleaning at a shop would most likely run you an hours labour plus the cost of a kit - so could save yourself 100 bucks doing it yourself (including the expense of a manual/kit)..."
