"Can the trim system be op-tested properly with the outdrive off the boat? Additionally, does the trim sender need to be in any specific position to operate the trim system properly?

"Probably be best to test your trim with the outdrive attached. The absense of the weight of the outdrive could give false results as to a problem that might exist... leaky piston seal/pump probs/etc. You can always test the trim without the drive to make sure it in working order before you reinstall the drive for another test.

Once your trim sender is installed you'll notice it has the capacity to be fine tuned to match exact trim position to your trim gauge on the dash.

The trim system should operate with or without a working trim sender/gauge. Most folks I've found can hear the difference in the noise when they're trimming(if their sender isn't working) and hear the change when it's all the way up or down. (except the dudes with thru hull exhaust... if their trim sender doesn't work they use a hot chick in a bikini to look over the swim deck and let the driver know when the trim's all the way down
