Engine or lower unit making rattling sound

We have a 1992 Searay 200 bow rider with a 5.0 Mercrusier. Ran fine all summer but the idle has always been too low and the engine would sometimes stop running at idle. Yesterday I decided to adjust it but without a tachometer. Did this by ear and looking at the dash tack and went from 450 to...

    Neptune Alternative Carburetor?

Does anyone know if there is an alternative carburetor that can be used on a 2hp 1939 Neptune? It's a model No 2A39 with a Tillotson MS-105A Carburetor. If not, does anyone know what size the bottom jet is? Or, what the displacement is so I can try to adapt a different carb? Any help is...

    1939 Neptune 2A39 2 hp won't keep running

I can only get it to run for about 2 or 3 seconds. It seems like it isn’t getting enough gas, but I’ve had both jets opened from 1 turn all the way to 4. Nothing seems to make any difference. The best run was playing with the choke once after it started. It may have ran about 5 seconds and then...

Just wondering what the upper and lower limits are for this motor and where I'm at...

    1939 Neptune 2A39

Just started the restoration of my dad's 1st outboard motor. It's a 2 hp 1939 Neptune 2A39. It has good spark, and the compression is 50 psi. This is the first time its been spun since somewhere around 1955. Is that fairly good compression? Also, where can I find a Champion 6-M spark plug? Thanks,

    Is this oil slick normal?

Got my dad’s ‘67 Merc 9.8 hp working again, but when I run it in a garbage can I get an awful lot of ugly grey/tan oil floating on top, is that normal for these old engines?

1967 Merc 9.8 hp crappie engineering.

Got this thing running thanks to the help here, but ran into a snag when I replaced the water pump impeller.. The rear stud that holds the lower unit together is by design only threaded in 2 and 1/2 threads!!! That's because the hole that it threads into, although being 1 inch deep, is only...
