1972 Uniflite Sport Sedan 31 performance issues

There is another item that needs to be checked and that is the propeller. These Uniflite 31' sport sedans are shipped from the factory with a 16 X 15 propellers and you will need to check that someone hasn't installed different propellers as too high or too low a diameter or pitch will produce...

    Rust on spark plugs

This picture shows what Arco believes to be the correct starter rotation. Good luck. I'm going to the boat this afternoon. I'll see if I can get a part number.

    LM 318 Engine wiring diagram

I did up a wiring diagram for our LM 318 marine engines. I have attached the file. I hope this helps some of you. Enjoy.

    No Thermostat, '71 LM318

You may have a early sixties (up to 1968 in Canada) semi-hemi, the 318A with poly heads. Check the lower edge of the valve covers (upper edge in this picture). If they are scalloped it's a 318A which were painted red.

    Overheating manifolds after installed new

Does your coolant flow resemble this diagram for the exhaust?

It looks like Chrysler uses a non symmetrical bolt pattern on the 318 engine flywheels as seen here. That still leaves the concern if the entire flywheel was changed. It would cancel the original engine balancing unless the new flywheel had exactly the same balancing weights installed...

    Too many hoses...

Thanks for the follow up. It's great to hear you are back up and running well. I have attached a picture of my engine temperature readings taken this October while underway at around 1200 rpm. It is worth noting that the raw water temperature at the time the readings were taken was about 65...

    chrysler 360

It looks like 4417599 according to this Marine Parts Express list. There may be other suppliers but this is the one that I found. You may want to call them and indicate what transmission you have as it might mater.

    Too many hoses...

For those of you that are in colder climate areas like me another point worth mentioning here is that because the cooling water enters and leaves these exhaust manifolds at the upper most point it creates a cavity that does not drain at winter lay up. My exhaust manifolds have draining...

    Too many hoses...

Q: Where the seawater leaves the heat exchanger and enters the exhaustt manifolds (A), is there a need for a "splitter/diverter" fitting as to introduce an equal amount of seawater into each manifold? (on many of today's systems, a splitter/diverter fitting is used). Q: Where the seawater...

What is the difference between these ones and the one that have holes on the side and bottom?

    Too many hoses...

I just noticed an error in the Chrysler flow diagram and have corrected it in this diagram. The hose from my oil cooler goes directly to the Vee Drive and then to a tee between the risers as shown here.

    Too many hoses...

    (1) Would you please identify the manifold Part # shown in the attachments. Sierra parts numbers shown here. (2) Does this manifold require distribution tubes and or will they accept same ? My cooling loop is as shown in this diagram. (3) What is the part # for the rear gasket and should...

    318 Valve stem seals

I just replaced the valve stem seals in one of my 318s on the boat. When I opened up the engine to replace them I noticed the old valve stem seals had spring keepers on them. The number on the old seals is AKR 239 BAF. I replaced them with Fel-Pro SS 70014 seals. I can't help wondering if the...

    Buying a take off manifold

I just looked at ours on our 1972 Uniflite 318s and the exhaust manifold casting number is the same as the one on your boat (PLV1 6672) so that would indicate they are interchangeable. The only other consideration you might have is if the ones you are buying have been in salt water, which rusts...

    Buying a take off manifold

Maybe this one will be bigger. In short the ones you are thinking of buying look like the 1973-1986 risers to me, however the final decision is yours as you have to part with the cash.

    Buying a take off manifold

It looks like there are two models of exhaust manifolds. One from 1966 to 1972 and one from 1973 to 1986. The casting number that you have in your picture is 6672 which is off of a 20 degree exhaust elbow according to this sheet.

Starboard engine surges, powers down and will not pass 2400 rpm.

In my 1972 31' sport sedan with twin 318s and Paragon Vee Drives, the port engine is standard rotation, and the starboard engine is reverse rotation. Another way to tell is by looking at the distributors. The reverse rotation engine distributor will have a 3/4" spacer under it like the one in...

    Paragon Vee Drive

A follow up. A noise was being generated from the same Vee drive area at low RPM so we had a vibration analysis done to determine where the noise was coming from but due to the solid construction of both the Vee Drive and the transmission it did not identify the source. We sent the Vee Drive out...
