1996 5.8 FSI - Fuel Pumps Wont Start

    How on earth?

I don't visit the site much in the winter, so been gone a while. But how/why in the heck is Rick "RicardoMarine" showing up as "Banned"? I can't image a more helpful/knowledgeable human being. The value he has brought to this forum over the years is immeasurable. For a guy like me who his...

1996 Volvo Penta 5.8l Fuel Pump runs hot then engine will not restart

I should have also mentioned that I've drilled out and sleeved my fuel reservoir as it was pitted badly and also was designed to let water into it though a virtual pin hole. I did this a few seasons ago, and have had no issues since.

    AQ225D thru-hull exhaust outlet dimension?

RicardoMarine gave me this when I did mine. I did coat my holes with a thin later of Marine Tex when I did mine also.

    Battery Connection Question

Not necessarily a VP question, but you guys have been my guides for years, so I trust your input. I have a 2 battery system. Just had both replaced. The battery cables on my boat all have the small ring for the smaller terminal. However they were connected to a larger connector that went to...

Add drain valves at exhaust manifolds?

Is it worth adding drain valves at the ends of the exhaust manifolds? Putting in a brand new set of Barr manifolds, and thought about adding a Fumoto valve at the far end of each for easy draining instead of the supplied threaded plugs. Not sure how much water might or might not stay in them...

Which style is the best exhaust manifold?

It appears that there are two types or replacement manifolds that will fit my application. One has a tube where the water enters below each opening, and the other has the water running right into the side of the main body of the manifold. My question simply is, GENERALLY SPEAKING what's the real...

Fuel pukes from filler when filling up at the pumps.

Okay guys, If you don't mind, I'd like a couple of opinions before moving on. See photos below. They apparently cut one strap too long, and installed it anyway. If this was your boat, would you bother to correct it or leave it knowing that the tank hasn't moved with it like it is? How hard...

Fuel pukes from filler when filling up at the pumps.

Okay. All my parts are in, hoses, vent, whistle. So I peeled the carpet back, removed the small access plates and this is what I found. The reason I believe my vent is not overflowing before I overfill the boat is because it's on the complete opposite end of the tank and the hose if stretched...

Fire retardant sound dampening material options.

Hey guys, the old stuff the boat manufacturer put in 24 years ago has been falling apart. I've put some HVAC tape on it as a stopgap, but I'd like to replace this stuff with maybe something thicker and better for a bit more sound deadening as well. Any thoughts or ideas? I don't even know what...

Thru Hull Exhaust. Do it? Don't do it? Opinions?

Just one more update for posterity in case anyone decides to do this in the future. They can certainly do what I did...or not!!! ;-) As for the Y pipe, I filled the entire lower section with the Loc-Tite brand of expanding closed cell foam. I did this in the main opening and the 2 relief...

    Shifter Suggestions for a DP-C1

Hi Gang, Another project on the list is a new shifter. My current one is very stiff and it grinds a bit when shifting. Cable is new/great/fine/adjusted. Grinding is actually at base of handle on the outside not the inside. It's just old. 24 years old. Time for a new one. I need a side mount...

    Super cheap VP Fuel Filters

Just a PSA that if you use this filter 3862228 (A lot of us do), they are dirt cheap at Wally World right now. I ordered 3 at this price, and shipping to my door being free was great also. I may order 3 or 4 more...

Fuel pukes from filler when filling up at the pumps.

Great info guys. Trust me, i'm taking it all in. : ) I have not yet stuck my head below deck, but I'm guessing that this is at least part of what I will find.

Fuel pukes from filler when filling up at the pumps.

Hi all, Not really a VP specific problem this time. I also posted in the fuel section, but it doesn't look like anyone's lurked in that forum for 8 or 9 months. Hoping someone here can lend some advice. I have a problem when filling that the fuel at the pump does not shut off, and the boat...

    Boat pukes gas when filling

Hi all, I have a problem when filling that the fuel at the pump does not shut off, and the boat pukes out a ton of fuel when filling. It's a Perko style filler, where the vent is right there at the filler as well. I read somewhere that these had a problem at one point in time. I also read, it...

Thru Hull Exhaust. Do it? Don't do it? Opinions?

One thing I should probably point out for future readers considering this is the odd 3 5/8" O.D. of the exhaust elbows. This dimension is really not ideal as most exhaust pieces are 3 1/2" or 4". I didn't trust a 3 1/2" I.D. hose to fit well over the 3 5/8" elbow, so I went up to 4" after I...

Thru Hull Exhaust. Do it? Don't do it? Opinions?

Okay guys, in looking at the back of my boat, it's a bit different than the diagram. On the diagram, you measure from the top of the elbow to the top of dimension "a", which I'm assuming is in line with the rubber bumper molding that runs around the boat. If so, the diagram shows the top of the...
