    Trim tab trouble

On my 1983 Chris Craft Catalina 251 which I purchased Last spring, the previous owner told me the trim tabs weren't working. I didn't bother with them last year or most of this year but had a chance for a marine mechanic to take a look. Well found the fuse blown, at the switch, so we put another...

    Exhaust fumes in cabin?

Here's something that has been happening this year. I have a Chris Craft 251 Catalina, inboard ,350 mercruiser. I've notice a strong exhaust fume smell in the cabin area when I dock the boat after being out for a while. Nothing while running , just after docking. Where would this be coming from...

    Using Brightside one part finish

From the bottom stripe of my boat to the waterline is about 4". It is painted with ablative bottom paint as is the whole bottom. After about a month in the water( I keep it docked all summer) it starts coming off like it's supposed to do and look's terrible. Can I sand off that bottom paint on...

    Power Inverter Question

I have a small 1500 watt inverter on my boat that I use for small stuff like a vacuum and trouble lights if need be. My question is, can I mount and hard wire it to one of the batteries so I don't have to keep fumbling around with it and hooking up aligator clips to the battery. Thanks-Russ

    My marina is too busy?

Well my marina is contracted every year to pull the boat, power wash the bottom, change the fluids and winterize the engine, shrink wrap it and store it. This week I asked if everything was done and they said they're so busy that they winterized it but won't change the motor oil and filter, the...

    Depth finder problem

Don't know if I have the right forum for this but here goes. I have a hummingbird fish/depth finder. It's a small cheaper one. When I'm just cruising under 15 mph the depth and temp numbers are correct, but when I get going on plane and in a little rough water the numbers are crazy. If I'm in...

    Zerk fittings on outdrive

On my Volvo-Penta 290 duo/prop outdrive, I see on each side is a zerk fitting. I want to grease those before putting it in but didn't know what type of grease to use. Also should I take the cover off the shift cover and put some type of lube or grease on the shift linkage itself. thanks-Russ

Is there a difference in oil?

Having a Volvo-Penta AQ231A ,which is really just a 305 Chev. motor . The motor doesn't know if it's in a car, boat,or airplane. It's never used in really cold weather, so why can't I just use a good Pennzoil 10W-40 or a straight 30W, or even a Brad Penn 20-50, from my local Autozone store when...

    Outdrive problem

I have a Volvo Penta duo prop outdrive and noticed last season that when I raised it, it would settle back down in about 15 minutes. Obviously something is leaking somewhere internally. I was told that if it gets real bad that in hard reverse the outdrive would try to screw itself right out of...

    Can I paint like this?

My 1988 Imperial 215 really needs the front deck painted. From the windshield out to the anchor. If the deck was lightly sanded and wiped down with acetone and prepped real good, why couldn't I roll Rustoleum paint on the deck. As we all know it shines bright and flows out smooth when drying...

What outdrive paint and primer to use?

What's a good outdrive spray paint and primer to use on my outdrive? I know I'll have to sand down the rough spots and prime it. I'm thinking 1 can of primer and 2 cans of color for the volvo penta outdrive. thanks-Russ

    Another fuel fill question

Does anyone make a 90 degree fuel fill. Where I'm placing my new one it's too hard to try to turn the new marine fill line onto it. Wow, that new fill line is really hard. Maybe there is a 90 deg. bend that I can attach to the fuel fill first.

    Fuel fill and vent

I'm wanting to move my fuel fill to a higher point on the starboard side of the boat for ease of filling. Right now it's in the back down just above my swim platform making it hard to fill and seeing the pump. My question is, will I have to move the vent up to the same height also. Right now the...

    Guage replacement

Wanting to change out my futuristic tri-colorerd type guages for guages that are easier to read at a glance while underway like whiteface guages with black needle and numbers. I was wondering if I need to buy matching sending units for the guages. Suppliers seem to tell me that all marine guages...
