    How to fit selector shaft to gear box.?

    I replaced impeller in 9hp Mercury and now cant get to fit the leg back together. The selector shaft does not want to lock in. It gets within 1 inch of fitting then want go further. The gear shaft slides in fine -- its just the selector wont go in. Any ideas?
