    Supposed 1996 Mariner Magnum 40 hp. Serial # sends me to 90-115hp.

    Any help as always would be much appreciated. The serial number for this motor is 06300021. Below the serial # it states 1996 C40 ELPTO. When I look this serial number up it sends me to a 90-115 horse Mercury. I know Mercury made Mariner but the HP is way off. Am i crazy for thinking that?
