    1987 Force 125 Gas Consumption

Throw me a bone. At typical cruising RPM ( say 3900 ) how many MILES PER GALLON do you think is "normal"? I know, plenty of factors involved....just humor me.. 16' Bayliner Capri open bow, 2 people, not towing anybody, flat enough water...... 2 miles per gallon on a good day?

88 Force 125 trim motor replacement

I had to get a new trim motor, Taiwan. What is the best way to seal the motor/reservoir to the valve body? Just the o ring dry? O ring and RV sealant? Ideas?

    87 Force 125 Overcharging

The volt guage read a steady 13 volts or so for 2 years. It changed suddenly about a month ago. I have continued using the boat. At idle, the volt guage reads a cozy 13 or so volts. It will say 13 even at medium rpms for a while. But eventually, it rises to 16 volts especially at higher rpms...

    Guages

'87 Force 125 motor on a '98 Bayliner Capri. OK, I understand why the tach doesn't work right, 20 pole engine on a 12 pole tach. But why does the gas guage and volt meter peg out when the motor is running? They are fine when the engine is off. I have isolated power and ground for these two...

Why does my tach read backwards?

1998 Bayliner Capri, 1987 Force 125....... Does this mean the positive and negative wires to the gauge are reversed? Other gauges are working fine.

    Lower Unit Drive Shaft Question

This link will take you to a video of me moving the drive shaft around while, obviously, the water pump assembly and housing cover are off. Is this "normal" movement? I'm not sure what year it is, but maybe a '92? It has the two piece drive shaft with the coupler.

88 Force 125 Leaky Lower Unit

I have already replaced the water pump "plate" with the newer style shift rod seal. So it doesn't leak there. Where would be the next likely leak spot? Also, the vent, fill, and drain screws.......One had a plastic washer, One had remains of the washer, and the other had no washer at all. Do...

    88 Force 125 gauges

Gas gauge, tach, and voltage gauge. The gas gauge seems to be accurate when the motor is NOT running. The tach reads nonsense but is reading something, and the volt gauge seems to be working when the motor is NOT running. ALL the gauges go UP when the motor is RUNNING. The voltage and gas gauges...

    Swapping Powerhead 1988 Force 125

I will make this thread as complete as I can, with pictures along the way, of swapping my current 1988 125 with a stripped, working 1987 head. The new head is coming from Illinois, 135-140 compression, freshwater, a retired fire/rescue boat motor, city maintained. Looks brand new in the pics...

    Trim/Tilt removal Force 125

Scraped off the barnacles, loosened the lines, removed the upper and lower nuts from the rods. Removed the pump/motor. Hit the rods with a 16oz hammer, can't get them to budge. Should I try a small sledge? Any suggestions on how to remove the rods ? Heat? I have applied penetrating oil.....

    Mystery Clog....solve this....

1988 Force 125. I removed the leg housing to gain access to the powerhead mounting bolts. In between the housing and the exhaust outlet is a rubber boot that connects the two. I removed the boot, and something caught my eye in the exhaust hole. I pulled out what appeared at first to be a...

Engine case compatibility 1988 Force 125

I have this motor benched now, and have begun to dismantle the bolt on stuff. I need a new block. The stamped number on the case is 440010-3, looks like a date of 7/27/87. What other year blocks are totally compatible with mine? Or where can I look to see for myself..... JB

    Powerhead removal 1988 force 125

Got all 12 bolts out, 6 top, 6 bottom. I can lift the head about an 1/2 inch, and it stops. I've tried and tried to get it off. It feels like there is something toward the rear (inside) of the engine that is doing this. The water pump pipe I'm pretty sure is not mechanically attached to the...

    Zero Compression??.....Really??

88 Force 125 was idling in a bucket this morning warming up so I could set the idle. After a couple minutes it died. 1/2 hour later I was able to start it again and get it warming up. Same thing happened. Have not been able to get it to start since. Checked compression. 120 110 0 45. Did...

    1988 force 125 info

I just got this motor/boat. The previous owner said that a week ago, he started out and a few minutes into the ride the motor slowly lost rpm and died. He said he thought he might have smelled something. He did not try to start the motor and was towed in. He bought a new boat the next day and...
