  1. Re: 91 omc cobra 4.3 setting timeing after distributer gear replacement

Auto shop 101....if it’s a points distributor you also need to learn to setvpoints with a dwell meter.
  2. Re: Omc cobra 5.0 with ford 302 engine Holley carb help

2389423895On the Holley there are idle transition slots that provide fuel as the throttle is opened, if the idle is set properly these will appear as a square below the closed throttle plate, if the...
  3. Re: Omc cobra 5.0 with ford 302 engine Holley carb help

If it runs with the idle screws all the way in then it’s not running off the idle system. Turning the screws in all the way should stall the engine. The idle system may be clogged.

Re: When centrifugal advance springs get old

I responded to the same question on IBoats but in any case I’d think it’s more an issue of rusty crud restricting the movement of the weights, remove the point plate (2 screws) and clean it out with...

Re: omc 2.3 ford with rochester carb

Correct there are no 'steps' that would be dangerous on a marine engine because the fast idle would make it slam into gear, what you do is open the throttle all the way to let the choke close then...

If I recall the VR 1 race oil is very good for preventing wear but it may not have the anti-corrosion additives that the marine oils have. I am in salt water that's why I use the Merc...

    Re: ESA upgrade

You'd be best off to call CDI and talk to one of the tech guys and see what they say. I used one of their modules when my old one failed and it works just like OE.

there are a pair of 50 amp fuses that are on the engine bracket that holds the big 9 way cannon plug, there are cylinder shaped fuse holders, you may have blown one or both of them.

Re: New long block oil recommendation (7.4)

You can use Mercruiser 25/40 or Delo or Rotella 15/40. If the engine has an engine oil cooler you can use lower vis oils but if not then I'd stick to the higher vis oils.

  14. Re: Engine miss and new rattle developed in exhaust manifold

Your timing advance is not determined by the type of ignition system you are using (ie either the original points system or electronic--Petronix in this case) it is totally a function of where you...
  15. Re: Engine miss and new rattle developed in exhaust manifold

I looked in my OMC shop manual from 1988 which is older than yours but, for the 5.7 King Cobra they gave:
8* base timing + 21* full centrifugal advance @ 3,000 rpm, for a total of 29*. If you can...

Re: New boater having issue with engine idling

Don’t worry about that, all I can use is e10 (no regular gas can be sold here) and I have had minimal problems over the years and the gas comes out of the separator crystal clear.

Re: New boater having issue with engine idling

By how it’s running in the vid it appears that the idle system in the carb is clogged because it will run above idle but not at idle speed (600 or so rpm). So I think while you can do a tune up I...

  20. Re: Question about emptying carb during periods of non use

Ok one last bit of minutiae that is good to know, but few do know about this...it concerns fuses in an engine compartment of an inboard gas boat. With the new style blade type fuses; one is ignition...
