    Re: Synthetic tc-w3

Agreed, if they meet TCW3 spec then it's fine. I've used Pennzoil XLF in the past and it worked just fine. I thought I'd see less smoke but it wasn't any different.

    I've been running Evinrude...

    Re: Low compression causes.

A hole in the top of the piston will do it. I can't say I've heard of it happening much on outboards, but I've seen it plenty on jet skis. With a carb per cylinder one can get partially plugged and...

    Re: Shift shaft .

    Yep, this is absolutely correct.

I ran into issues when I found my '96 Intruder 150 had a lower unit from a FICHT engine, which meant the shift rod was 1/2" too long for my engine. After...
  4. Re: Possible to replace the primer bulb with something else?

I tend to think using the fuel pump in conjunction with the the filter housing will work, but I've never tried it so I can't say for sure. In theory the pump should keep the filter housing fully...
  5. Re: Possible to replace the primer bulb with something else?

I had an old '70's boat with a similar setup and battled the same thing. New fuel lines, tight connections....I tried many things but the fuel starvation issue was still there. This was on a...

    Re: Need help

Absolutely. Setting for 8 years that rubber has developed a 'memory' and also had a chance to become pretty brittle. For the minimal cost and time of a water pump install I'd do it for sure.
  7. Re: dent in my aluminum boat, how do I go about fixing it?

I've seen a lot of good things about Alumalloy:
    https://www.amazon.com/ALUMALOY-Pound-Aluminum-Welding-Alumaloy/dp/B01MQX8QJY

Like Dieter said, drill through at each end of the crack to stop it,...

    Re: new engine with VRO

The extra oil won't damage anything. You'll have more smoke than normal but that's about all. This image below is the correct test procedure to make sure the oil side of the VRO is delivering the...

Re: BRP Shut Evinrude down!! No more moters!!

This is very unfortunate. In 30 years of boat ownership my outboards have always been Johnson/Evinrude. Yes I'm biased, but they have always seemed to be good quality and reliable. I've been...

Re: 1994 Evinrude 150 Starving for Fuel

Sounds like have a fuel restriction problem.

Did you check flow at your fuel selector switch? Maybe there is something blocking either inlet port or the outlet port of the switch?

    Do your...

    Re: Fuel Filter

If you have a spin on type water separating filter you have no need for the inline filters.
  12. Re: Evinriude 20 (25) hp, water coming out of the exhaust

Perfectly normal. Those are the exhaust relief ports. When the Lowe unit is submerged and the thermostat is open you will get water combined with exhaust coming out those holes.

    Re: VRO Fuel Pump

Not plugging the oil line will allow the oil side of the pump to suck air and cause major problems with fuel delivery. The 'power connector' is actually a sensor. There is no power to the pump...

    Re: Engine prop help

    Good info Tim.

Jmeyer, what kind of boat is this running on? Assuming your engine is in top shape and running properly you're looking at going down to a 15P or even 13P prop to get your engine in...
  17. Re: Johnson 150 oceanrunner 2 stroke running issues

The connector for the vacuum sensor has to be there. Keep searching.
  18. Re: Johnson 150 oceanrunner 2 stroke running issues

You need to track down several usual culprits. A V6 that has issues can sound just fine on the muffs but the back-pressure of having the lower unit the water will make the problems surface. So,...

Re: What battery do i need

I’ve always had good luck with Interstate brand. I’ve used Walmart batteries and they don’t seem to last. I’ve always been able to get 5 years out of Interstates.

Re: What battery do i need

A group 27 battery should be plenty big enough.

A dual purpose battery that's rated for cranking and deep cycle is probably your best bet.
