  1. Re: Erratic High Idle 8.1 L MPI with 2007 ECM Engine s\n 670174 Manufactured 08/06

Thanks Crusader and Mercruiser use different ECMS so this likely does not apply. I'm gonna do some basic first things first testing and then go from there. I may have low compression from lower end...
  2. Re: Erratic High Idle 8.1 L MPI with 2007 ECM Engine s\n 670174 Manufactured 08/06

    Thanks Mako:

Agreed cannot be a vacuum leak because at highest vacuum (low idle) it runs perfectly and the RPM is 660 = meets spec.

I will definitely need a systematic and complete record of...
  3. Erratic High Idle 8.1 L MPI with 2007 ECM Engine s\n 670174 Manufactured 08/06

    Team:

Port engine described above with the 07 ECM has an erratic high idle that oscillates between 800-1200 RPM. Ii is rock steady at dead low idle (660 RPM) and above about 1200 RPM. This...

Re: No start 2004 8.1 MPI Port Side

Just a note figured this one out the key switch (very old) lost the 12 V "run" signal while it was cranking due to worn out contacts. New switch and it starts reliably now.

Re: No start 2004 8.1 MPI Port Side

    Thanks Mako:

Agreed, ignition is next on the checklist and conservative use of starting fluid seems like the easiest away. However I cranked it quite a bit over the course of two days and I did...

No start 2004 8.1 MPI Port Side

    Hello Team Crusader:

2004 8.1 MPI port motor 425 hours (new to me) cranks strong but wont start. On a couple of attempts there was some suggestion of the motor beginning to fire but not for long...
  7. Re: 2012 PCM 6.0 ZR409 Overheating at high RPM

Seems like you have covered about everything. Perhaps measuring raw water flow would be of some use. Could the head gaskets be slightly compromised?
  8. Re: Purging old gas Crusader 8.1L MPI Returnless Fuel System (s/n 670174 & 670175 MFG. 8/2006)

    Thanks Mako.

I already pulled the raw water impellors. After flushing out the old fuel I intend to start up for 30 seconds or so on the fresh fuel from a portable tank and then shut it all down...
  9. Purging old gas Crusader 8.1L MPI Returnless Fuel System (s/n 670174 & 670175 MFG. 8/2006)

    Hello Team:

I just completed the purchase of a Blackfin 32 with a pair 8.1L MPIS's up here in NE. There is about 95 gallons of stabilized fuel in the tanks, but its been sitting for 2 1/2 years. ...

Re: Engine wont Start No Gas to Carb

Mako, yes we rotated the engine by hand and observed the entire cylinder. There were no other scratches or marks other than the two we reported near the top.

The prevailing theory right now is...

Re: Engine wont Start No Gas to Carb

We determined that the piece of steel recovered from cylidner #8 was in fact the lost carb. nut smashed flat and then broken in half. So that's where the mssing nut went.

    We got the engine all...

Re: Engine wont Start No Gas to Carb

Should be up and running this Sunday. We plan on checking compression first and then seeing how it runs.

We will post the results, and possibly a picture or two of the affected cylinder.

Re: Engine wont Start No Gas to Carb

Mako, we pulled the head on the right side of the block after the boroscope revealed some marks on the piston dome in the #8 hole. There was a small piece of steel in the cylinder that got sucked in...

Re: Fuel Pump not pumping: Gen IV Crusader 454

    Hi Erich:

We installed an electric fuel pump kit because the fuel pump push rod got jammed inside the block trying to trouble shoot the "no fuel" condition. After the install of the electric pump...

Re: Fuel Pump not pumping: Gen IV Crusader 454

Good suggestion. We tried a portable tank but did not use the primer bulb. No luck though, the pump would not take fuel from the portable tank. Seems like if it was pulling any vaccum at all it...

Re: Fuel Pump not pumping: Gen IV Crusader 454

    Thanks Mako.

Yes, its based on a no start condition (dry carb bowl). If you pour some gas in it will run for a while then stall. I wasn't sure if the push rod would stay up against the cam lob...

Fuel Pump not pumping: Gen IV Crusader 454

I'm helping a friend trouble shoot a fuel delivery problem on his starboard Gen IV Crusader 454 with mechanical fuel pumps.* His Port motor has no issues and is connected to the same fuel tank as the...

    Re: Overheating Engine, Part 3

I never saw the direct evidence for the combustion leak, only the anecdotal evidence. I'm not sure I would have pulled the head with the compression numbers, lack of compressed air leakage into the...

Re: cutless bearing play - measures 0.010

At a pre-purchase survey last spring a surveyor noted 1/8"-5/32" of radial play in the port cutlass beaing on my Albin trawler. He said it might be "serviceable" but should be replaced if any...

    Re: OVerheating Engine, Part 2

An obstruction in an internal cooling passage (see post #3) makes sense. Your plan to investigate the flow through each side of the block separately has some merit. It would be nice if you could...
