    Re: Evinrude 100993s tach wiring

I'll look at mine after work as I just wired it a couple weeks ago.

The plug I got right off this website for about 30 bucks plugs right in and had purple (+12V), black (GND), gray (tach signal)....

    Re: 1985 70 evinrude

I really hate when brand new fuel is bad.

was able to get a few gallons of non ethanol, drained the carbs from current fuel and pumped in non ethanol mix.

3 starts and fails, but the last one...

racerone -- am I correct in thinking that kill lanyard will prevent spark thus preventing the motor from ever firing?

    Re: 1985 70 evinrude

carbs have been drained and refilled with fresh fuel (same e10, havenít actually gotten new fuel yet)

The idles are progressively getting slightly longer or itís a figment if my imagination. Had...

    Re: 1985 70 evinrude

It will fire, which eliminates that. That was one of my first thoughts and I opened control box to check condition of wiring. Wiring in there is probably the cleanest on the boat.

    Will crank and...

    1985 70 evinrude

In this case I believe the model to be irrelevant. If it is necessary, let me know.

Friday ran up the river about 15 miles, towed a jet ski back to their boat after he rolled it over and filled...

    Re: WIring for tach

Water pressure is important. Water pump gets done every other year on every boat I've owned. Cheap insurance. Along with turn around and look at hte damn thing every once in a while. Mine is an open...

    Re: WIring for tach

I appreciate the verification. Main reason for connecting this is two fold.

    1) IMO, it's the most important gauge on a boat with an outboard.
    2) I want to make sure I'm propped right on my 18ft...

    Re: WIring for tach

I found the pinout after some searching, and it appears I only need pins 1 (+12V), 2 (Ground), & 3 (Tach signal) as I am not concerned with the actual system check functions given this is a 1985...

    Re: WIring for tach

Boat is rigged with 1985 Evinrude 70hp. I may have just figured out that I need an adapter to go from the binnacle to the tach. You are correct it is in fact a system check gauge. It appears I am...

    WIring for tach

I have a tach installed on the boat. Why it was never wired in, I have no clue.

Images attached, it's an 8pin connector, and I have no idea what connector(s) I need to make it functional.

    1985...

    Re: Verify my thought process

mods can delete this thread if you want.

Happened by chance to figure out it was bad fuel. Mowed lawn and wouldnt fire, I mow weekly. Same fuel that's in the boat (no oil mixed of course). Had to...

    Verify my thought process

New to me boat. Knocked a significant portion off price as we couldn't originally get the motor on plane. Owner was dumbfounded it wouldnt run after sitting for 2+ years while he had back surgeries....
