  1. Re: 1965 75 hp Electramatic Lower Unit Shafts Stuck After Rebuild

As I remember it, the reverse coil doesn't actually touch any rotating parts, or establish gear mesh. Something very strange going on here.
  2. Re: 1965 75 hp Electramatic Lower Unit Shafts Stuck After Rebuild

Which NOS section did you replace, upper or lower or both?

Re: 1969? 20 HP Johnson Carb. [mod. fd-21R]

When they first came out with the soft tipped needles, they quickly found out that the needle would stick up in the seat and the carb would run out of gas. The spring clip is a fix to drag the...

Re: 1969? 20 HP Johnson Carb. [mod. fd-21R]

The spring normally only comes with a complete float valve 396521 or Sierra 18-7093. However, if you found it listed separately in a 3hp, order it. The spring is the same in all models that use it.

Yes you need it with the new soft-tipped needle.
  6. Re: 1962 40hp Johnson just decided to not power up

Typical story. Running on one cylinder. The other one cuts in and out occasionally giving you those spurts of power.

    Re: Water pump kit

Simple. Not all models' parts books are loaded in this website's database. Especially origins from non-USA, or commercial or racing models. They might not even have the parts book to load. Call...
  8. Re: 1965 75 hp Electramatic Lower Unit Shafts Stuck After Rebuild

AHA!!! Bent gearcase. I've seen several bent ones, but yours must be really badly bent. Take the upper gearcase section to a machine shop and have them check the parallelism of the machined top...

    Re: Water pump kit

It comes up as a 1990 Commercial motor. Sorry, I don't see a parts list for it. I suggest a call to marineengine's parts dept.

Water ingestion was also my first thought.

Re: 1974 Johnson 25 hp issues

Agreed, not much pressure there---normally. However, there is considerably more instantaneous pressure when it lean sneezes caused by too lean fuel/air mixture, Yes, a poorly sealed crankcase could...

    Re: Shifting issue

Remove the connector and turn it end-for-end (upside down, so to speak). Reinstall it rotated around as much as you can and still get the bolt in. Now the bolt will intersect a cleaner spot on the...

Re: 1971 johnson evinrude 85 hp

Not so fast. I know the 1972 models had start-in-neutral controls, but not so sure about 1971. OR, it actually could have a 1972 control on it. Anyhow, I'm thinking a broken shift switch in the...

    Re: ignition switch woes

Writing this without benefit of a wiring diagram. So, does your motor have a separate choke switch, or has it been replaced with a push-to-choke ignition switch? As originally built, it should have...
  15. Re: 1955 Old Boat Motor 15hp runs but I need help

First, there are tons of experience out there concerning the fuel pump conversion, as well as ways to do it. What sort of fuel issue do you think you have? Has anything else been done to the motor?
  16. Re: 1973 Evinrude Triumph 65HP(65373R) Weak spark

That cranking sounds fast enough to me.
  17. Re: 1971 eveinrude 18hp won’t start always flooded??

It all begins with removing the flywheel for inspection. All I can do is guess till then.
  18. Re: 1971 eveinrude 18hp won’t start always flooded??

If the flywheel is loose (under-torqued), it will damage or completely shear the key. It can spread and crack the flywheel if over-torqued. Most often cause of over torqueing is using an impact...
  19. Re: 1971 eveinrude 18hp won’t start always flooded??

My best guess is the flywheel key sheared. The gas in the water has gone through the engine unburnt because there is no spark at the right time to ignite it. When you assembled it, were the shaft...

    Re: ‘72 Johnson 20hp Magneto ?s

    1. The coil ground wire probably was not routed correctly. It should be pushed back as close to the coil as possible. No comment on the dinging the brass ring.

    2. The coil closest the front...
