    the bearings are the same... some dont bother with gaskets, but use silicone sealant. make sure the mating surfaces are very clean.

    there are freeze plugs, but you may have to get a light and a mirror to see where it is actually leaking from.... there are a few different places it could be leaking from down there.

    not sure why you wouldnt consider a reman engine, but all things being equal, remans are as good as a crate engine, and sometimes much better if a conscientious and knowledgeable "marine" engine...

    possibly.... it depends on ones point of view I suppose.

    but if one was to keep in mind that I can afford to do it, I have the time to do it as the engine I have in the boat now is perfectly fine...
