Re: Metal behind prop shaft seal

    Or outer space debris.

Seriously though, I would tend to agree…..... most likely a Back-flow prevention flapper.
  2. Re: GM 5.7L , SB350ci DISTRIBUTOR CONVERSION INFO NEEDED

    Yes you may.

1...... the automotive ignition distributor is not "ignition source protected". In other words, there is nothing to prevent an escaping internal spark from igniting gasoline vapors....

Re: Volvo Penta AQ 171C engines

FYI..... you've posted to a thread that is over 8 years old.
  4. Re: 85 PCM 351 losing spark as rpm's increase

A short dwell angle will limit coil saturation, and will cause a weak spark at the higher RPM range.
Do as Mark suggests, and use a dwell meter when adjusting the contact points.
  5. Re: GM 5.7L , SB350ci DISTRIBUTOR CONVERSION INFO NEEDED

Do not use an automotive vacuum advance distributor!

If you prefer to get away from EST, look at the Mallory YLM624AV, or one of the many other options.

  6. Re: Mercruiser 5.7l EFI - Starter Replacement - Yellow/Purple Wire

Your engine oil pump is driven by the lower end of the ignition distributor, of which is driven by the camshaft.
In other words, actual oil pressure is not influenced by anything electrical.

    Re: AQ171c Plug wire placement

I agree..... the spark plug cable posts should be labeled.

The #1 cylinder will always be the furthest cylinder forward.

Actually, it would be himself (not themself)!

But to answer your question..... I don't!
However, this is very simple. The OP said: "Does anyone know what the compression reading should be on...

    Re: 4.3L 431B overheating

The best I can offer you would be to study and learn the seawater path for your cooling system.

The smallest suction breach can play hell with the seawater pump's ability to pull water in.

  14. Re: Volvo Penta AQ130x identification and replacement ignition coil

Your ignition system was OEM with a resisted coil voltage. If the resistor is still there, then you'll want a coil that requires external resistance.

    Re: compression reading

A healthy 1995 Mercruiser 5.7 VORTEC should give you a cylinder pressure reading of approx 140 to 160 psi per cylinder, and with no more than a 10% differential between the lowest and highest...
  16. Re: 91 omc cobra 4.3 setting timeing after distributer gear replacement

    Yes!
The spring pin bore in the new gear will not be in the same location, therefor the gear teeth will not be indexed in the same way.

    Re: Volvo Penta fuel issue

The voltage at the fuel pump should be at/near 12.

If the pump is putting out 40 psi, then it's the wrong pump for a carburetor..... especially after having tried two of them!
