Re: Blocked Exhaust on Merc 5.0L MPI?

I'd check the fuel pressure, under load, from Idle to WOT...low pressure = lean condition = lots of problems

Re: Are marine engine blocks unique

If it was a standard production, GM or Ford, there is nothing 'special' about the blocks used for marine engines....high nickel discussions are tribal knowledge...

    Re: What happened?

    Welcome back, Stranger!

Going on the premise that no spark is the issue, I'd say there's not much left...ignition switch, (potential) circuit breaker under the dash, for the ignition, bad...

Re: 350 XL 1997 ...motor mounts on center?

It won't 'drop in' but is real close, as far as the mounts go...the crusader mount uses a lag that goes thru the center...the MP mounts are like mercruiser mounts in that they use two lags thru the...

Re: 350 XL 1997 ...motor mounts on center?

if you are asking about the Port-Starboard spacing of the stringers, all the domestic OEMs use 22.5" OC...most mounts will have enough adjustment to handle minor variations.

Re: 318 Where's the Air Coming From?

Lots of rebuilders - a www search will get you started. Not everybody offers long blocks; I'd suggest that route because of the raw water cooling. The other item that may be due for reconditioning...

Re: 318 Where's the Air Coming From?

I'd make sure on the diagnosis before spending money...that said, I think you have a 50+ yr old block so its very possible, especially being raw water cooled...may be faster to get a long block or...

Re: 318 Where's the Air Coming From?

The only logical conclusion I can reach is a head gasket leak...if you can catch a sample from the tstat housing, combustion leak detection fluid should tell you for sure...I would also suspect there...
  9. Re: Merc outboard runs fine on rear fuel tank but starves of fuel at idle from front fuel tank

I don't believe you need anti-syphon valves with an outboard so I would start by removing them.

If the issue recurs after that change, I'd be inclined to hook up a vacuum gauge at the fuel pump...

  12. Re: Gibson Crusader Champion Series will not start

3/8" inverted flare fittings are what you typically see in the marine world on the larger engines (V-8's).

This is one version of something that may make the clean up easier:...
  13. Re: Gibson Crusader Champion Series will not start

sure, you can use the handle...but the throttle plates should be adjusted once the engine has been warmed up and the mixture screws set...you will find all of these adjustments have some potential...
  14. Re: Gibson Crusader Champion Series will not start

Capt Bob was referring to the screw to open the throttle blades a bit more....once the engine has warmed up (choke open and coolant up to normal, then you can dial in all of the adjustments....idle...
  15. Re: changing a 318 standard rotation engine to a reverse rotation engine

Re: '73 PCM Waukesha Ford 302

your best bet for literature would be over at correctcraftfan.com....they have a reference section with a slew of manuals from that vintage.

As far as parts, maybe the spark plugs, and the...

    Re: dipstick adaptor elbow

I'd say you want a plan before you go trying to remove a heli-coil. They make extraction tools but the good ones aren't cheap. They are not much more than precision sized coils of square wire. there...
  18. Re: Mercruiser 7.4 Litre Bravo engine starts and runs fine on open water but stalls after

the 'strong gas smell' maybe due to the fuel pump diaphragm leaking....assuming it is the carb'ed model...

there should be a yellow tygon hose running from the fuel pump up to the carb, connecting...

    Re: dipstick adaptor elbow

nothing will work very well with an oily surface.

Locktite may cure on an oil flim but doesn't have anything to bond with...(FWIW, it cures aerobically).

PST is locktite's brand name for pipe...

    Re: dipstick adaptor elbow

Wow! unique parts can make for a maintenance nightmare...

if the leak is from the elbow-adaptor joint, and the old elbow is on decent shape, I'd be inclined to clean up both surfaces and then use...
